Opposition PASOK-KINAL leader Nikos Androulakis discussed rising levels of crime and the resulting insecurity felt by citizens during a meeting with the Panhellenic Federation of Police Employees on Monday in Parliament. He also discussed the problems faced by police employees.

"The government's 'law and order' dogma, as presented after 2019, has collapsed spectacularly. Crime and delinquency are rising. At the same time, we had the tragic event with one of your young colleagues, who lost his life trying to earn a little extra money, as some are forced to hold down two or three jobs. It is, therefore, a PASOK priority to establish meritocracy in the force, and to boost salaries," Androulakis said, pledging a police force free of political patronage.

He also stressed the high level of insecurity felt by poorer and middle class Greeks, who "cannot afford what the state should daily provide in all neighbourhoods" and commented on violence in sports.
