Samaras will answer to PEF through the Minister of Health

The Prime Minister will answer through the Minister of Health, Mr. Makis Voridis, to the memorandum which was submitted by the members of the Panhellenic Association of Pharmaceutical Industry, with the proposals relating to the sustainability of the industry.

This was stated to the ONMED, by the president of PEF Mr. Theodore Trifon, a day after the communication which he had yesterday with Mr. Samaras, in whose hands are now the suggestions for the development of the Greek pharmaceutical industry and of the viability of the industry.

The communication of the members of PEF with the Prime was simple, without many words, as Mr. Samaras made it clear that any solutions to the serious issues of the industry, will be given through the competent minister Mr. Makis Voridis.

The memorandum with the suggestions of PEF include:

- Adjustment of pharmaceutical expenditure

- Suggestions for reducing of clawback and rebate

- Amend the policy for generics, which causes serious side effects for firms, with the framework for the competitions in hospitals and by prescription by active substance. In this context, to consider the issue of sustained reductions in cheap medicines.

- To change the context for competitions in hospitals

As noted the Vice of PEF Mr. Dimitris Demos, during the glorious event of the Greek drug on Tuesday at Badminton Theater, if the three contests, (which are currently underway in the Ministry of Health), will be completed then 2,500 employees will lose their jobs, i.e. half of the people in the Badminton Theater, as he said.

The Vice of PEF denounced a contest, in which was chosen the latter bidder, who six months before the contract expires, did not deliver the medicines which ought to the hospitals. By doing so, raised, as noted, in danger the lives of patients, but at the same time harmed the state, since it inevitably turned to the substitution, selecting, in the last minute, an expensive drug. It is worth noting for the record that in this bidder was not imposed any penalty, but the government rewarded him, allowing him not only to participate in the next contest, but also giving him the permission to supply the hospitals of the country with a very critical medicine.
