Papoulias' support in Greek pharmaceutical industries

Papoulias' support in Greek pharmaceutical industries

The President of the Republic Mr. Karolos Papoulias, in meeting held at noon Thursday, November 20, with the presidium of the Pan-Hellenic Pharmaceutical Association (PFS), expressed his enthusiastic recognition of the role of pharmacists in today's economy and in the society and for the safeguard of the public health of citizens, since 11,000 pharmacies are located everywhere, even in the most remote and inaccessible areas of the country.

The First Citizen of the country was mentioned with very positive words in the critical and irreplaceable role of the 11,000 pharmacies in Greece.

As a result of the meeting, between the President and the general secretary of the Panhellenic Pharmaceutical Association Mr. Con. Lourantos and Yannis Makriyannis with the Supreme Lord of the State, Mr. Papoulias sent a clear message of support to the pharmacies, referring to the daily struggle and the holy mission of Greek pharmacists.

On his part, the President of PFS Mr. Con. Lourantos referred to the difficulty of access of the people to medicines, because, as he said, the financial participation of the insured has been greatly increased, leaving patients unable to pay. We have one humanitarian crisis in Greece concerning the health of Greeks and this fact, troubles pharmacists, said Mr. Lourantos.

Mr. Papoulias, at this point, said that he has a question which he put to himself, but did not get a reply: "Why we have a crisis in medicines when we have a thriving Greek pharmaceutical industry?"

Replying the President of PFS, noted that "we have a crisis, because the Greek pharmaceutical industry has not been protected; it has not even given an incentive for its development. Because I believe that Greek pharmaceutical industry can offer growth. If we cannot help the Greek hands, especially in the pharmaceutical production, -which is the best product produced at this time in Greece, we are not worthy of development.

Development passes through the Greek hands. And I think we should help the Greek pharmaceutical industry, which, indeed, has no shortage of medicines. It is not possible to extract the Greek drug by 70% and to remain in Greece only 30%", said Mr. Lourantos.

"I am very glad to hear this from you," added the President, noting that he believes and supports that the Greek pharmaceutical industry is top.
