Moscovici on Greece's negotiations with the troika

EU Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs Pierre Moscovici on Friday (28/11) expressed the volition of the European Commission to find a way that would allow the troika to return to Athens within a short period of time and the Greek adjustment programme to be concluded soon.

He said the deliberations on Greece continue at an intensive pace and added that on Thursday he had a phone discussion with Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras on the issue.

He also expressed the confidence that the negotiations between the troika and the Greek government are on the “right track” and said he believed there is greater convergence. He also noted that the European Commission is working intensively to have convergence and added that the aim is to take the necessary decisions as soon as possible, since the Eurogroup’s December 8 meeting on Greece is nearing.

“The Commission wishes to find a pacing that will allow the troika to return within a short period of time and the Greek government to quickly take the necessary measures that will allow it to conclude the adjustment programme soon,” he said. He also suggested that his visit to Greece will take place as soon as the negotiations with the troika have been concluded.
