Abandoned mystery ship found at Zakynthos
Palau-flagged 57-meters freighter "Amaranthus" was found moored stern in the gulf of Porto Vromi and abandoned by its crew. Coast Guard found hundreds of boxes with contraband cigarettes on the ship.
Port authorities are investigating a mysterious case involving a freighter that was found abandoned at the rocky western coasts of Zakynthos.
During the investigation, coast guard officers found a navigation document of the ship under the name Amaranthus and other documents referring to a Moldova-flagged ship under the name "ISIK 2". The same name, despite an attempt to erase it, was legible on the ship as well.
Moreover, the officers found lists with the names of the crew members, all of Ukranian nationality.
Coast Guard has called the Fire Brigade to pump the water from the ship's holds. Police has launched an investigation in order to locate the missing crew.
