Elections: The possible votes of the first round

Today will take place the first ballot for the election of a new President of Republic. Newsbomb.gr will inform you for all the developments, minute to minute.

Hundreds of journalists, economic and political analysts and foreign media will watch with interest the process of the election, in order to draw their own conclusions about political developments in the country.

According to the estimations, the result of today's vote is of major importance since it's extremely difficult - but not impossible - those who will give negative vote on the first ballot to change their vote in the second or the third ballot.

Based on the data so far, the first ballot is expected to become a "fiasco" for ND and PASOK, since even under the most favorable conditions, the positive votes of the MPs are between 162 and 169!

If nothing changes either due to an accident or due to some miracle, those who will judge the result is of the election, are the independent MPs and the two MPs of DIM.AR. (Tsoukalis and Psirras).

The Independent MPs are 24 and are divided into two categories:

1. In the group of "Independent Democratic MPs", which numbers 17 members and

2. Those who do not fit into any party (7 Members).

There are 7 definitely "YES" of all the independent MPs, (George Ntavris, Christos Aidonis, Katerina Markou, Panagiotis Melas, Giannis Kourakos, Spyros Lykoudis, Grigoris Psarianos), thus we reach 161 positive votes.

NEW DEMOCRACY: 127 "YES"

PASOK: 28 "YES"

SYRIZA: 71 "PRESENT"

POPULAR ASSOCIATION GOLDEN DAWN: 16 "PRESENT"

INDEPENDENT GREEKS: 12 "PRESENT"

KKE: 12 "PRESENT"

DEMOCRATIC LEFT: 8 "PRESENT" AND 2 UNDECIDED: Nikos Tsoukalis and Thomas Psirras

INDEPENDENT DEMOCRATIC MEMBERS: 9 "PRESENT" - 4 "YES" AND 4 UNDECIDED: Paris Moutsinas, George Kasapidis, Costas Giovanopoulos, Mika Iatridi

INDEPENDENT: 3 "YES" 1 "PRESENT" AND 3 UNDECIDED: Stathis Boukouras, Chrysovalantis Alexopoulos, Vyron Polidoras

With these figures, in the first ballot, only 162 possitive votes are certain!

But even if we assume that all of undecided independent MPs vote positively, then the figure rises to 169 and with the two undecided of DIM.AR., goes to 171!

Thus it becomes clear, that in order to be elected President of the Republic should everyone who have said they will vote "present" to ... changed their religion and miraculously to vote "YES". This scenario cannot be excluded though, because everything can be done in politics.

However, will Stavros Dimas take more than 164 votes?
