Amphipolis skeleton test results expected in January

The test results of the skeleton found in the tomb of ancient Amphipolis – namely the gender, the age and the height of the deceased – will be made known within January.

The Culture ministry in an announcement commenting on "groundless reports" on the internet clarified that the analyses of the finds in the fourth chamber of the tomb at Kasta hill were assigned to "a multidisciplinary team, composed of scientists from the Aristotle and Democritus Universities. The research program aims at a modern approach to archaeology of death. Starting with the skeletal remains in the Kasta tomb, the anthropological, social and historical context of the population of Amphipolis will be investigated – in a systematic and scientifically ethical way."

The analysis of this material is part of a broader research program, which includes the holistic approach of a sample of about 300 skeletons, coming from the broader Amphipolis area and chronologically cover the period from 1000 BC to 200 BC

As part of the two-year research program, the necessary modern analytical methods will be applied. The results of the tests will be competed in 20 months.
