Only Greek generic drugs in pharmacies

These are the words of the chairman of ECEC, Mr. Theodoros Tryfon, commenting on the proposal - intervention of Newsbomb and Onmed, which opened the social dialogue for the distribution in Greece, only of generic drugs produced exclusively in our country and particularly in the domestic production units.
In this way, we will protect the domestic production, (which suffers from the heavy taxation), will strengthen jobs and will stress the great importance of Greek pharmaceutical industry, for the national economy.

The representatives of Greek medicines market say that, in order this to happen is required a strategy. This is an interesting and feasible proposal, which apart from the great benefits that will bring to the economy, the patients and to the companies, will send a symbolic message, during these hard and wicked times: that Greece has the potential to produce medicines even for foreign partners, because has powerful units and qualified staff, which are exceptional ambassadors worldwide.

According to Mr. Tryphon: "It is a national obligation and a need of the economy, the government to use the domestic production of medicines, in order to ensure the quality of the medicines, to reduce the financial deficit of the country and of course to stop depend on imports in such a critical national field". He adds: "Anything that can be legislated in this direction, finds us in line."

In addition, Mr. Tryphon said: "as ECEC, we have asked the government to lower the rebate for domestically produced medicines that create economic benefits to the Funds, (i.e. contributions, taxable material etc").
Positive reaction from SYRIZA

The head of Health Sector of SYRIZA, Mr. Giannis Baskozos said that the exploitation of the domestic units is of great importance for the country, in his speech in the National School conference, which is taking place these days at the Hilton on "Health 2020: From Rhetoric to Documentation for future of Healthcare ".
Mr. Baskozos, reiterated the emphasis of SYRIZA in Greek generics, which considers as absolutely safe, reliable and the spearheaded in the pharmaceutical policy that the country should have. He even spoke about the need to upgrade the EOF and IFET.

Regarding the proposal of Newsbomb, the medicines' market players say, that it should be given even more motivated to Greek pharmaceutical companies, because it is a fact that there is no equality between the Greek and foreign companies. For example, they indicate that is injustice, that a foreign formulation is approved much faster than a Greek. The approval procedures must be faster under a mutual recognition and thus to be under an egalitarian framework.
Also, according to executives of ECEC, it is clear that in Greece, is not recognized the domestic added value and that becomes clear on the model of the competitions, something that we have seen recently with the contest for 20 active substances in NHS hospitals. There must be certain criteria, because the way they made these competitions from GCS, brings a serious problem.

Finally, the representatives of ECEC said that the state should, ultimately, give incentives for the production of Greek medicines and to hear the proposal of the Union, which speaks for the offset of employer contributions to the taxes of clawback and rebate.

The Newsbomb.gr and Onmed.gr opened a social dialogue and are waiting for the reactions of the Ministry of Health, in a proposal which has received very positive acceptance by all stakeholders, especially the Greek citizens who find that the distribution of generics, which would be produced exclusively in Greece, is the only way to safeguard their health.
