State of emergency declared on parts of Crete buried under snow

A state of emergency was declared in the municipality of the plain of Lassithi on the island of Crete on Friday by Civil Protection General Secretary Serafim Tsokas, who accepted a relevant request by Crete Regional Governor Stavros Arnaoutakis.

The decision was made in response to the serious problems created as a result of the recent heavy snowfall in the specific municipality on eastern Crete and other parts of the south Aegean island.
