Katrougalos announces plans to re-hire of 2,500-3,500 public sector employees
Alternate Administrative Reform Minister Giorgos Katrougalos, on Thursday (29/01/2015) speaking to SKAI TV, announced the immediate re-hiring of 2,500-3,500 public sector employees who had lost their jobs due to the availability scheme.
The re-hiring mostly concerns cleaners, school guards and school teachers of technical specialties whose layoffs were against the Constitution, Katrougalos noted, adding that this will take place within the month.
Asked on how they will find the money to cover the salary cost, the minister said that the budget already provides for 15,000 hirings in the public sector.
He also said that this number does not include the ERT (former national broadcaster) employees. He confirmed that they will also be re-hired, but this does not fall within his competence.
