FinMin Varoufakis' letter of reforms to be discussed at Monday's Eurogroup

The next Eurogroup meeting on Monday (09/03/2015) will discuss the letter with the reform list that Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis sent to Eurogroup president Jeroen Dijsselbloem, a senior eurozone official on Friday told journalists.

According to the same official, the eurozone Finance ministers expect Varoufakis to present them the reform plans in detail as well as to be briefed by the institutions and the minister himself on the progress made in technical discussions.

The same official, however, suggested that on his own level the communication with the Greek services is limited and that at this stage he is not in a position to know who will take part in the technical consultations, when and where they will take place

He also mentioned that the technical consultations are not expected to begin this week, as eurozone services had earlier estimated.

He also stressed that technical discussions are still in a very early stage, and for this reason he stressed that consultations between the Greek authorities and the institutional representatives should be intensified.

Asked whether a partial disbursement of the funds that Greece is to receive from lenders is feasible, he noted that provided that some of the so-called prerequisites are met, this could be made feasible conditional to certain terms.

The eurozone official also stressed the importance of presenting all the measures included in the decision of the previous Eurogroup meeting in order to have a clear picture of the situation.

And this is because, as he noted, the partial evaluation of certain measures without knowing the content of all the reforms, is not possible.

Asked to comment on the liquidity of the Greek economy, he said that since the representatives of institutions are not in Athens, they do not have a comprehensive picture of the situation.

As regards the borrowing needs for the coming period, the eurozone official said that the largest amounts to be paid are in July and August and come to 6.5 billion euros.

Moreover, the same official said he does not believe the Greek authorities will seek a further extension after June, noting that the European political environment would not encourage that.

Finally, regarding the possibility of a third economic aid programme, the eurozone official said that Greece should first ask for it. If there is no such request, an offer cannot exist, he said.
