Special Court to deliver ruling in Papaconstantinou's trial on Tuesday

The Special Court is expected to deliver its irrevocable ruling on former finance minister George Papaconstantinou, over the handling of the so-called Lagarde list of Greece’s large-scale depositors in a Swiss bank, on Tuesday around 6 p.m.

The former minister has allegedly removed the names of three relatives of his from the list. Papaconstantinou and his lawyers claimed he was not the offender and that some people ‘set him up’. Prosecutor Xeni Dimitriou said he is the only offender in the case.

Papaconstantinou is facing criminal charges of tampering with a public document and attempted breach of trust.

If the Special Court rules against him, then his sentences will increase significantly to the level of life imprisonment, provided that no mitigating circumstances will be taken into account.
