Students parade in downtown Athens for March 25th national holiday

The traditional students' parade marking the anniversary of the March 25, 1821 revolution against the Ottoman rule was held in central Athens on Tuesday, while the main military parade will take place on Wednesday, the day of the anniversary.

The parade included more than 1,800 students from primary and secondary schools as well as participants from the Special Olympics and scouts units.

Earlier in the day, Education, Culture and Religious Affairs minister Aristidis Baltas laid a wreath at the monument of the Unknown Soldier in Syntagma Square, outside the parliament building, followed among others by the Athens mayor George Kaminis.

“Today is a day of remembrance, a day of commemorating, a day of history, a day for all generations that made Greece free and democratic, a day of celebration for the new generation, the children we watched, their parents and teachers and for those who help the younger generation become worthy of the previous generations and event better than them,” Baltas said.
