There must be single and uniform agreement, gov't source says

There must be a single and uniform agreement between Greece and its creditors, otherwise it will not be viable, a government source said on the sidelines of SYRIZA's Central Committee meeting late on Saturday (23/05).

The source said that the International Monetary Fund was in favour of a partial write-off of Greece's debt in order to make this sustainable, whereas the European Commission and European Central Bank refused to even discuss the prospect.

In spite of this, the Greek government believed that an agreement will have been reached in the first week of June, the source said.

Presenting the Greek side's positions in the negotiations, government Vice-President Yiannis Dragasakis said Greece wanted a three-tier VAT system with rates of 7 pct, 14 pct and 22 pct and primary surplus targets of 1 pct in 2015 and 1.5 pct in 2016, with growth running at a forecast 1 pct of GDP in the current year.

He noted that these targets were compatible with SYRIZA's programme.
