Afghan national arrested on charges of migrant trafficking
The Orestiada Police Special Team for Prosecuting Illegal Migration on Sunday announced the arrest of a 19-year-old Afghan national on charges of facilitating the illegal entry of 19 Afghan nationals into Greece.
The arrest was made in Dilofos, a region near to the Evros River on the Greek-Turkish border. The suspect was caught while attempting to ferry the migrants across the river from the Turkish shore in two dinghies. The boats were confiscated and the suspect taken to the Orestiada first-instance court public prosecutor.
An preliminary inquiry is being conducted by the Orestiada Border Police.
