Europe and Greece on a 48-hour frenzy of meetings
Greece’s place in Europe might be determined within the next 48 hours with a barrage of meetings, teleconferences and a Eurozone summit on Tuesday (7/7).
On Monday there will be a teleconference between European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem, European Council President Donald Tusk and European Central Bank President Mario Draghi.
A Euro Working Group session will take place in Brussels on Monday to prepare Tuesday’s Eurogroup of the 19 Eurozone finance ministers.
Also on Monday, the Board of Directors of the European Central Bank will convene to discuss Bank of Greece’s request for restarting the emergency liquidity assistance (ELA) scheme and provide cash to Greek banks.
Finally, on Monday German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande will meet at the Elysee Palace in Paris for a working dinner in which they will discuss “the consequences of the referendum in Greece”, as the statement says.
On Tuesday there is a meeting of Eurozone finance ministers at 2:00 pm (Greece time) in which the Eurogroup president has stated that he is expecting Greece to submit its proposal.
Finally on Tuesday there will be an emergency Eurozone summit in Brussels at 7:00 pm (Greece time) to discuss the Greek bailout issue. The summit was called by the state leaders of Germany and France.
