Gen. Sec for Public Revenues Savvaidou orders internal inquiry over alleged data hacking

General Secretary for Public Revenues Katerina Savvaidou on Monday ordered an urgent internal inquiry under oath to investigate whether staff at the secretariat had committed illegal acts and an internal check of all IT systems to discover any unauthorised accessing of data.

The inquiry was ordered after recent press reports about plans to hack the secretariat's software containing all tax registration codes in order to create a parallel payments system.

An announcement stressed that the secretariat strictly observes all application and data security rules, as laid out by the General Secretariat for Information Systems, to protect the systems from external violation.

The results of the inquiries will be immediately relayed to the competent administrative and judicial authorities, as well as the political leadership, the announcement said.
