Meimarakis visits Parliament president, discusses operation of Parliament

Main opposition New Democracy's temporary leader Evangelos Meimarakis, himself a former parliament president, on Friday had what he called was a "long and constructive" discussion with the new Parliament President Yiannis Voutsis concerning the operation of Parliament.

"I believe that as an experienced parliamentarian, he will protect Parliament's prestige and we will all contribute to this. It is Parliament that must be expressed and not the government," Meimarakis said.

Meimarakis said that ND wanted the first draft legislation in Parliament not to be tabled as ultra urgent and as one article, pointing out that most bills tabled in the last seven months went through fast-track procedures. He said this request met with a good response from Voutsis.

According to sources, ND's president asked that the transfers of 87 party employees be cancelled and that they return to their positions.
