PNO extends seamen's strike by two days

The Greek seamen's union federation PNO on Thursday decide to extend ongoing labour mobilisations with another 48-hour strike beginning at 6:00 on Friday (09/12) and ending on Sunday (11/12) morning.

The strike has left ships moored in their docks and islands without transport and essential supplies throughout the past week.

Shipping and Island Policy Minister Panagiotis Kouroumblis sent a open letter to PNO Secretary General Yiannis Halas, again reassuring him that the existing tax rates for Greek seamen will not be raised and promising to continue efforts for dialogue on other issues concerning Greek sailors. He invited PNO to attend a meeting at the shipping ministry, with the social insurance and pensions minister, on December 15.
