PM Tsipras to participate in NATO summit in Brussels

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is in Brussels to participate in the meeting of the country leaders and governments of NATO member states in the "shadow" of the terrorist strike in Manchester.

The role of the international organization is to link - on an equal basis - both sides of the Atlantic and to strengthen collective security, contributing to peace and stability in the wider region on the basis of international law.

According to the government, Greece constitutes a pillar of stability and security in the Eastern Mediterranean, the Balkans and the wider Black Sea neighborhood.

While particular importance is placed on tackling international terrorism, which should be part of a wider strategic framework for peace and stability in the region, this should not adopt an anti-Islamic attitude or act against any Muslim population or country.

At the same time Athens is promoting the strengthening of the Mediterranean Dialogue, with the aim of strengthening regional security and stability.

On the sidelines of the Summit, the Greek Prime Minister will meet with his Albanian counterpart Eddie Rama. Based on the information so far, Alexis Tsipras will have no other meetings, but only a few short contacts. Tsipras is accompanied by Defence Minister Panos Kammenos, Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias.
