Katrougalos: The third review will not have the political characteristics of the previous ones
The third review will not have the political characteristics of the first and the second review, the page has been turned and it is time for the Greek people to have a better day after seven years of misery and harsh austerity, stated Alternate Foreign Minister responsible for European Affairs George Katrougalos speaking to Athens Macedonian News Agency radio "Praktoreio 104.9FM" on Wednesday.
"The next review will not have the characteristics of the previous ones which was the suffocating pressure for additional austerity measures, measures which are very close to IMF's neoliberal logic. The next review will focus mostly on the implementation of the measures we have accepted to undertake and what we experienced in the recent IMF's meeting was the Fund's pressure to Germany and to the other lenders for further relief of the debt". explained the minister
Katrougalos underlined that the return to normality has not only an economic but also a political dimension. "There is improvement in the economic figures" and "the wager is this to become part of the everyday life" .
Referring to the recent issuing of a five-year bond, Katrougalos noted that "what we wanted to safeguard is that the economic recovery would coincide with the return to the markets.... What we want is to tap the markets two, three and four times until 2018 in order our ability to borrow from the markets to be confirmed" he added.
On Athens' claim for the European Medicines Agency headquarters to move to Athens from London, Katrougalos said that "a possible relocation of the Agency from London to Athens would hold an important symbolism, it will mark the country's return to normality because it will invigorate the local economy and the huge importance of the medicine for the Greek economy which is a sector that withstood the crisis and even extended through exports.
