Sputnik: Greece teaches Estonia a history lesson

Sputnik agency reported that Greece's refusal to accept the views of the Estonian authorities on communism and events in the history of the 20th century forced Tallinn to make adjustments to official documents.

"The international scandal forced the Estonian presidency of the EU to change the text published on its official website regarding the conference to be held on August 23 in commemoration to the victims of totalitarian and authoritarian regimes. The refusal of the Greek Justice Minister Stavros Kontonis to participate in the conference forced Estonia to amend the initial document. However, it did not in essence change the way that Estonia sees the history of the previous century," according to Sputnik.

"Greece (and it is not the only one) categorically refused to accept the equation of nazism and communism crimes," Sputnik said. It added that as a result the new text published on the Estonian presidency website has been changed but it continues to distort the content of the resolution of the European Parliament ratified on April 2, 2009.
