Tsakalotos rejects reports new measures will be needed to close third review

Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos vehemently rejected claims that Greece’s third program review will not end in time and that the government will have to take extra measures to complete it during a speech at the Regional Conference on the Productive Reconstruction of Epirus, at the Du Lac Hotel in Ioannina.

“It is not true that the third review will not be closed, it is not true that we will not receive the sub-tranche, it does not true that we will be forced to take new measures, it does not true, it is not true,” Tsakalotos said.

The minister said he is certain the government will offer a handout to poor Greeks again this year and that the country will achieve a clean exit from its adjustment program in 2018.

Asked whether he is optimistic about the ongoing third review, he said “optimism is a good thing,” adding that after the completion of the second, Greece has turned a page.

Tsakalotos also expressed his certainty that the country will attract investments, noting that Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ trip to the United States was very positive.
