Government indifference to law and order issues 'provocative,' ND leader Mitsotakis says

Main opposition New Democracy intends to table a question for Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras during prime minister's question time in Parliament, asking him to explain "why he doesn't let the police force do its job," ND leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Thursday.

Mitsotakis made the statements after visiting the police station in Pefki, which was attacked by hooded assailants throwing petrol bombs in the early hours of Thursday morning.

ND's leader stressed that the attack "provokes range and grief" since it had placed officers' lives at risk. He noted that the police force went beyond the call of duty to ensure peace and many times felt entirely unprotected.

"This incident is added to a series of other phenomena that have a common reference point. The government's provocative indifference to tackling similar incidents of disruption of law and order. Upholding the law and the safety of citizens is an agenda without an ideology. There cannot be freedom without security and I am personally determined to restore law and order in the country," he said.
