Fugitive wanted from 2015 arrested in house in Spata

A prison fugitive wanted since March 2015 was arrested early Wednesday at the eastern Athens suburb of Spata.

Antonis Karamolegos, aged 50, had received a furlough but did not return to prison. Karamolegos had shot and killed two police officers in 1990 outside the police headquarters in Athens.

One year after the violation of his furlough he shot and seriously injured a man in car at the railway station in the northern Athens suburb of Neo Iraklio.

It was the second time that Karamolegos violated his furlough, as he had been arrested again in 2011 after violating another furlough.

In the house he was arrested in Spata, police found a pistol, hunting rifles, cartridges and stolen cars. A woman that was with him during the police raid was also arrested.
