Greek annual inflation rate rose 1.1 pct in November

Greek annual inflation rate rose to 1.1 pct in November this year, from 0.7 pct in October and -0.9 pct in November 2016, the Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Friday.

The statistics service, in a monthly report, attributed this development to an increase in the prices of tobacco, transport and telecommunications. More specifically, prices rose 0.7 pct in food/beverages, 7.5 pct in alcohol/tobacco, 1.3 pct in clothing/footwear, 5.6 pct in transport, 1.3 pct in telecommunications, 0.2 pct in education and 1.2 pct in hotel/restaurants. On the other hand, prices fell 0.1 pct in housing, 2.3 pct in durable groods, 1.2 pct in health, 1.5 pct in entertainment and 1.5 pct in other goods and services.

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index fell 0.7 pct in November from October 2017, after an 1.2 pct decline recorded in the same period last year. Greece’s harmonized annual inflation rate grew 1.1 pct in November after a 0.2 pct decline recorded in November 2016. On a monthly basis, harmonised inflation fell 0.9 pct in November from October after an 1.5 pct decline recorded in the corresponding period last year.
