Activities at the National Archaeological Museum over the holidays

The National Archaeological Museum of Athens will offer several activities for adults and children over the Christmas and New Year holidays, with a recital celebrating the holidays on December 29.

The program will include a Christmas concert with violin, cello and flute (Friday, Dec. 29, 13:00 at Room of the Altar). Works of Vivaldi, Haydn, Bach and Piazzola will be performed and the concert is free with entrance ticket to the museum.

Several workshops will be offered for children, including reconstructions of ancient games, an opportunity to touch ancient toys and make their own, and listening and handling ancient musical organs.

The artist Alekos Kyrarinis, whose works are on show at the museum's cafe, will talk about the depiction of angels in art and let children create their own, in the same space.

Adults will have the opportunity to visit the exhibit on the Roman Emperor Hadrian and his relationship to Athens, and discuss with archaeologists about his era (Thursday, Jan. 4, 12:00).

Children over 8 years old and adults can hear professional storyteller Niki Kapari tell beloved stories of ancient Greeks and Romans, while musician Yiannis Psimadas will accompany her. (Friday, Jan. 5, 12:00).

Mulled wine Gluhwein and chocolate walnut pie will be available at the museum's cafe from Sunday, Dec. 12 to Sunday, Jan. 7. Visitors to the cafe do not need to pay for museum entrance.

In addition to all events, the museum's store will offer gifts like a good luck charm and a medallion that can be used for the traditional New Year's cake.
