Thirty-year-old snowboarder dies after avalanche at Vasilitsa ski center
A 30-year-old man died in hospital after he was buried by an avalanche while snowboarding at the Vasilitsa ski center in Grevena, northwestern Greece, on Friday.
The young man and four friends from Greece and abroad had walked to a slope in the center, which was closed for the day, and were snowboarding to the bottom when an avalanche occurred, burying the young man in the snow.
He was located and freed with the help of the center's special vehicle and transported via the center's ambulance to one of first aid ambulance service EKAV, where he was administered first aid on his way to the hospital.
The manager at local Grevena Hospital, Pantelis Alexiadis, said the hospital had been alerted and doctors there spent an hour trying to resuscitate him unsuccessfully. Alexiadis said the man's body bore no marks of external trauma on his face or body.
