PM Tsipras: 2018 will be an excellent year for Greece

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras in his message for the New Year expressed his certainty that 2018 will be a landmark year for Greece which will exit the memoranda after eight years, leaving behind the period of supervision and harsh measures.

The prime minister referred to the sacrifices of the Greek people and the government's struggle to take the country out of the crisis and reassured that Greece will not return to the conditions that caused the Greek tragedy.

He said that the government followed another policy that puts the country's interests above the interests of a spoilt oligarchy. This policy, he added, brought tangible results:

- the economy has revived, as all figures show

- unemployment has significantly reduced

- Greece has restored its position in the international stage

- the social hand-out was a breather for millions of Greeks

- the social state has improved despite the fiscal difficulties

- reforms in the health sector, education and public administration rapidly proceed

The prime minister also pledged to continue this policy. "We will continue this policy with new forces and new possibilities after the end of the supervision. Because growth without social justice has neither sense nor prospect."

The prime minister wished everyone a "creative, peaceful, and happy 2018, with optimism and the certainty that Greece is on a path of democratic regularity, economic progress, equality and justice" and promised that the government will continue its hard work and struggle.
