Traffic restrictions in city centre for Athens Half Marathon on Sunday

The race will be run between 9:00 and 12:20 on Sunday morning, starting on Amalias Avenue between Parliament and Syntagma Square and following a route though the main roads of the city centre up to Alexandras Avenue before eventually returning to Syntagma Square for the finish.

In addition to the Half Marathon, there will also be a three-kilometre race starting on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue, outside Evangelismos metro station, at 9:10 and a 1,000-metre race for children and persons with disabilities starting on the corner of Rizari Street and Vasilisis Sofias Avenue at 9:35, both finishing at Syntagma Square around 10:00.

Finally, there will be a five-kilometre race starting at the lower end of Syntagma Square (near Ermou Street) at 11:45 and lasting until roughly 13:45, again following a route through the city centre and returning to Syntagma Square.

Most of the main roads in the city centre will be closed to vehicle traffic, including bicycles between 7:00 and 13:30, while sections of Amalias Avenue will be closed from 5:00 until 14:00. Private vehicles will also be barred from traversing roads along the route of the race except at the following, monitored junctions:

Patission Street - Stournara Street

Vassilisis Sofias Avenue - Irodou Attikou (only fire brigade vehicles)

Vassilisis Sofias Avenue - Papadiamantopoulou Street

Vassilisis Sofias Avenue - Kokkali Street

Vassilisis Sofias Avenue - Rigillis Street (only fire brigade vehicles and ambulances)

Vasileos Konstantinou - Rizari Street

Vasileos Konstantinou - Vasileos Georgiou

Vasileos Konstantinou - Vassilisis Sofias Avenue
