Major landslide on the old national road linking Ioannina with Metsovo
A major landslide was reported early on Saturday on the old national road Ioannina -Metsovo just before the village Votonosi.
The road has vanished for 200 metres at km 51 of the roadway. The road is used by the residents and the local buses while it is also used when there are problems on Egnatia motorway.
Civil Protection road crews are currently at the site of the incident. The landslide is currently underway, said Political Protection director Dimitris Mavrogiorgos to Athens-Macedonian News Agency adding that the restoration works will take long. He also estimated that the landslide was the result of the huge amount of rainfalls that hit the area.
