Turkey will not trigger an incident in the Aegean, Alternate FM Katrougalos predicts

Alternate Foreign Minister Giorgos Katrougalos, in an interview with ERT state television late on Monday, expressed his belief that Turkey will not strive to trigger an incident in the Aegean.

At the same time, he stressed that Greece must be prepared for all possibilities, confident that there will not be a war and having faith in the deterrent strength of the Greek armed forces.

Turkey's statements is a proof of its weakness, he said adding that Turks are aware that they cannot win a war in the Aegean.

Katrougalos underlined the recent decision of the European Council which stipulates that Turkey's provocations constitute a violation of international law. "Turkey is diplomatically isolated and this is a great success of Greek diplomacy," he said.

Asked about the issue of the eight Turkish soldiers, he said that they cannot be extradited to Turkey because there are irreversible court decisions that they should remain in Greece, which cannot be overturned.
