Greece, creditors agree on reintroducing single book prices

Greece agreed with international creditors on Friday to reintroduce single prices for books, meaning that books will have the same price at all retailers, in line with a request from most in the industry.

The agreement was made as part of talks between the two sides in the fourth review of Greece's bailout program.

As stated in an announcement from the Culture Ministry, the draft law on book prices will be submitted to parliament in coming weeks.

Single prices on books had been banned for most categories of books in 2014, in line with recommendations from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), but its reintroduction was put on the talks table with creditors in 2016 after coordinated efforts between the culture and finance ministries, the announcement added.
