Erdogan seen shifting to more western friendly policies after Turkish elections
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is seen turning more favorably towards the west and changing his policy of conflicts with the United States after the country's June 24 elections, Constantinos Filis, Research Director, Institute of international Relations, told Athens-Macedonian News Agency.
Filis believes that Turkey's economic problems will force Erdogan to realize that "conditions of conflict with western partners deprives him of necessary support on different levels, organizations, mechanisms and fora to bring the economy back to relative normality and avoid social and economic upheaval."
In regards to Erdogan's Greece related policies, Filis expects the president to keep up his strong arm tactics as a way of responding to opposition parties in Turkey but added that this is unlikely to develop into a military conflict and risk more uncertainty.
