European Commissioner, Cecilia Malmstrom, visited new immigrant detention center in Lesvos
European Home Affairs Commissioner, Cecilia Malmstrom visited yesterday the new immigrant detention center on the eastern Aegean island of Lesvos.
C. Malmstrom was accompanied by Public Order Minister, Vassilis Kikilias, and Merchant Marine Minister, Miltiades Varvitsiotis.
A scheduled meeting with Prime Minister, Antonis Samaras, was also held on Tuesday.
During her visit in immigrant detention center C. Malmstrom spoke to held immigrants "about their fears and anxieties."
On their behalf, the two MPs stressed that Greece needs additional European Union funding to continue monitoring adequately its borders, where an increase in immigrant flows is observed.
