In Greece of the crisis and the continuous and prolonged recession, there are not few the citizens who live by the unemployment benefits.

Many of them have enough free time; however they waste that time in public service organizations, waiting in queues to collect information about whether entitled to receive a bonus.

What documents you need:

For the certificate of entitlement of the unemployment benefit, the unemployed must provide to the Employment Agency or the FMC, the following:
1. The letter of notice of termination of work or certificate of expiry of fixed term (with original stamp and signature of employer).
2. The form "Certificate of Employer" which complements the employer in accordance with the records of the DPA (Analytical Periodic Report submitted to IKA) of the last quarter prior to termination of contract. This form bears the original stamp and signature of the employer without any additional validation stamp of the competent store of IKA.
3. The family's sickness book, if he has dependents in the family, in order to take the relative increase.
4. The most recent income tax settlement note or if not available, a certified copy of the latest income statement.
5. Identification card.
6. Evidence of residential address of the insured (eg electricity, telephone, water bills).
7. National Bank Account (IBAN) in which he is the first beneficiary. In case you do not have an account at the National Bank, the service allows you to open an account in National Bank at no charge.

To collect unemployment benefits from the Employment Agency:
- You must be an employee and may have expired or has been terminated by the employer (dismissal) the contract of employment.
- To be insured as an employee in respect of unemployment of the Public Employment
- To have completed in 14 months or 12 months preceding your application, the number of provided wages, depending on your profession.

How and when you can collect the unemployment benefit?

The unemployed person may, within 60 days from the date of his dismissal to register to the unemployed registry in the FMC or the responsible office of the Public Employment Service of the place of residence and apply for a grant of unemployment. The unemployment subsidy begins from the day of application for the allowance. The beneficiary, who is registered in the first 7 days after termination or expiration of the contract, is funded by the 7th day.

I qualify but I have been subsidized within the last four years. Am I eligible and for how long to take an unemployment benefit?
From 01.01.2013 outside the above conditions for unemployment benefit will be calculated also the sum of the daily allowances received by that unemployed for the last four years. Examples:

Unemployed which the subsidy begins on 03.01.2013 and my days locked he is entitled 5 months subsidy (i.e. 125 daily unemployment benefits) but from 3.1.2009 to 1.3.2013 he has been granted 50 daily unemployment benefits, he will receive full grant [where 450-50 = 400 and 125 is less than 400].
- Unemployed which the subsidy begins on 03.01.2013 and by the days of insurance is entitled to a 12-month grant (i.e. 300 daily unemployment benefits) but from 3.1.2009 to 01.03.2013 have issued 250 daily unemployment benefits will be approved grant period the remainder of the limit of 450, i.e. 200 days subsidy [as 450-250 = 200].
Unemployed which the subsidy begins on 03.01.2013 and by days locked is entitled 6 months subsidy (i.e. 150 daily unemployment benefits) but from 3.1.2009 to 01.03.2013 have issued 450 daily unemployment benefits. In this case the unemployed will not receive unemployment benefit because it has reached the limit of 450 daily allowances.
