For which kind of democracy we speak of?

Forty years from the restoration of Democracy in Greece

It was 24 July 1974 when Konstantinos Karamanlis arrives again in Greece, after the fall of dictatorship under the weight of the coup and the Turkish invasion of Cyprus.

Head of Government "National Unity", he succeeded with decisive moves to restore fully functioning democracy in Greece.

When, in July 1974, flared the great national crisis starting with the overthrow of Makarios, Konstantinos Karamanlis was invited to establish a Government of National Unity.

It was dawn July 24, 1974 when the aircraft of the French president Valéry Giscard d'Estaing landed at Athens airport transferring Konstantinos Karamanlis from Paris.

Thousands of people with candles in their hands and shouting "He is coming, he is coming", expect him and prepare a triumphant reception. The reception of Karamanlis, with people celebrating in the streets, is the popular outburst after the seven-year of dictatorship, and the invasion and the tragedy of Cyprus.
On 25 July 1974, Konstantinos Karamanlis in his message to the Greek people, asks people to show political maturity in those difficult times.

At the same time in Geneva, began the same day the Greek-Turkish negotiations to address the crisis in Cyprus. Head of the Greek delegation was the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Georgios Mavros.

On July 30, 1974 in Geneva, agreed on the restoration of constitutional order in Cyprus and recognized the existence of two separate administrations.
However on 14 August the Turkish troops proceeded in Attila 2, eventually occupying about the 38% of Cyprus. Konstantinos Karamanlis condemned Turkey and announced the departure of Greece from the military wing of NATO.

On August 15 in a new address to the Greek people he said "armed confrontation with Turks in Cyprus is impossible because of the distance and because of the known fait accompli." The ceasefire in Cyprus took place at 18.00 on August 16, 1974.

The political forces of the country were then able to establish the most complete, from what preceded, government of Greek Republic.

Specifically, after the establishment of the government of "National Unity" and the confrontation of the consequences of the Cyprus tragedy, were legalized all political formations, including the KKE, which was outlawed since 1947, took place elections for the E Reviewing House, and decided a referendum on the final determination of the form of the polity.

40 years later ... Which Democracy?

The Greece today proudly declares that it is the birthplace of democracy, which we created it and fought for it.

The truth is that today we brought its gradually obsolescence, the degradation and the ridicule, in the constitution, which was reinstated after the military dictatorship.

The economic crisis was the one that gave the final blow to the body of Democracy.

With interventions in the Constitution of the State, with continuous requisition of workers ... who dared to raise their head and protest, with violent repression by the police and continuous "yes" to the desires of the troika, the governments of the recent years, have mortally wounded Democracy.

Even the President of the Republic, in yesterday's announcement, he admitted that the crisis brought a decline in the Democracy. Of course we must not forget that he has contributed to this by passing several presidential decrees that included brutally unpopular measures.

The Republic was poisoned. An unnatural repeatedly rape by governments and lenders that undermined democracy, daily.

You know, in Greece everyone has its own Republic. Every citizen, every politician, every entrepreneur has the democracy that serves him and he is democrat accordingly to his interests.
There is another kind of democracy for bankers, industrialists, ship operators, publishers, interrelated contractors, politics and famous journalists, and other kind of democracy for employees, small traders, professionals, farmers, fishermen, breeders, officials of 500 euro!
For the current situation we are all responsible ... All those who in one way or another, have public discourse. All those, who "straddled" democracy and became major unionists and transformed democracy into a polity of guild.
In a country with no logic, no thought, no continuity, the Republic is depressed and the medicine is scarce. The only one who can give a breath of life is the Greek people themselves; only they have the antidote. Only they can throw out all those who hurt the Democracy and all those who want it "dead", in order to trusteeships our country.
The solution then, is in our hands!
