New "roadblock" and suspensions on max prescribing
Another victory was scored by the Hellenic Medical Association against memorandum requirements in the field of health, as the State Council for the second time suspended the application of the ministerial decision on maximum prescribing by physician according to specialty and geographic area.
With statements, the President of the HMA, Michalis Vlastarakos, refers to a decision by the side of justice which guarantees the right of Greek people to care and doctors to operate in accordance with medical ethics and the real needs of their patients. The announcement of the association follows:
"Following the decision of the State Council which accepted the request of the Hellenic Medical Association for the suspension of the Decree of the Minister of Health, Makis Voridis, on establishing a cap on spending per prescribing physician on specialty and geographic area, the President of the Hellenic Medical Association, Michalis Vlastorakos, made the following statement:
"We welcome the decision of the State Council suspending the implementation of the Decree of the Minister of Health on the ceiling on prescriptions. This decision vindicates us for the second time and the National Medical Association for its actions. It ensures the care of the Greek people and the right of doctors to operate on medical ethics and the real needs of their patients. We think it's time that the Ministry of Health must immediately implement diagnostic and therapeutic protocols, which will lead to effective and efficient streamlining of public pharmaceutical expenditure".
