Russian people against sending troops to Ukraine: poll

Two thirds of Russians (63%) are against sending troops to the war-torn southeastern regions of Ukraine, the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Centre (WCIOM) said on Tuesday.

According to the poll conducted on July 19-10 in 42 Russian regions, 87% of Russians are aware of the fighting in Ukraine. Respondents said the conflict should be resolved by diplomatic methods.

Some of the participants were in favor of using force in Ukraine with 22% supporting "surgical" strikes and 11% thinking that Russian troops should be sent to Ukraine.

At least 5% of respondents believe that the Russian authorities should not react to the events in Ukraine at all.

The survey was conducted among 1,600 people in 130 towns and cities. The margin of error was about 3.4%.
