USA to resupply Israel with ammunition even after condemnations
USA will resupply Israel with ammunition, even after condemning shelling of UN's Gaza school, confirmed USA officials.
Israeli army had asked for supplementation on 20th of July, in order to rebalance reductions in stocks of ammunition, announced the Pentagon.
USA Defense Ministry approved the sale three days later.
"USA committed to guarantee Israel's security and it is a determining factor for USA interests to help Irael develop and preserve strong ability of self-defense", said Pentagon's representative, John Kirby.
"This specific sale of defense equipment is consistent with these objectives", he added.
Part of this equipment comes from a stockpile of weapons maintained by the USA in Israel so the latter could use it in emergency cases. They are estimated to cost 746 million euros.
Kirby stresses that ammunition was located there long before today's crisis.
"The decision to supply Israel with this equipment was purely ministerial decision and requested approval by the White House" he added.
Nevertheless, the representative did not clarify whether the White House was involved in the decision for a new sale of ammunition that was provided to Israel.
