The weather predictions of the empirical meteorologists for next winter and spring

By systematically examining some natural phenomena or "signs" in the sky, they could guess or "see" the "merominia", i.e. to predict the weather of the entire next year.

The "merominia" have many supporters among farmers, breeders and generally people who live and work in the countryside.

The merominia are the first twelve days of the eighth moon of the year, ie August. Watching the weather of those days, people are guessing the weather of the next twelve months.

"Merominia" are called the days of the forecast, by the words "day and month," because every day of them represents a full cycle of the moon or one month.

The weather forecast was taking place in August because this month was considered the beginning of winter. Based on the observations that were making they believed that the weather of the day of observation will be the same with that of the corresponding month of the year.

Fall 2014

September 2014

1-5: Sudden temperature drop, several rains on 3-4 September.
6-15: Originally rise of temperature, generally good weather, on 11th -13th will take place considerable variability in the atmosphere and a slight drop in temperature.
16-25: Changeable weather mainly in the north and east, possibility for some rain until 20, then the weather will improve and around the 23th will be quite cold but dry weather without rain before the 26th.
26-30: The cold weather continues, but without rain until the 30th, towards the end of the month expected a lot of rain around 29-30.

October 2014

1-5: Many rains mainly on 3-4 October, fairly chilly weather.
5-15: Monotonous weather without rain until the 10th, but quite cold, worsening of weather in the 11th with a lot of rain and very coldly for the season, rise of the temperature in 14-15 and generally sunny weather.
16-25: Rise of temperature and no rain before the 26th.
26-31: Gradual temperature drop and rain at the end of the month.

November 2014

1-5: Plenty of rain and normal temperature for the season.
6-15: Sunny weather from 6 to 7-8, normal temperatures for the season, from the 9th day of the month, we will have the first cold invasion for this season from the north, large drop in temperatures, a lot of rain and maybe the first snow on the mountain tops of Attica. This cold invasion will last at least until the 13th -14th. Sunny weather, but with low temperatures from 14 to 15.
16-25: Low temperatures for the season, generally sunny weather until 16 to 19, from 19 expected a lot of rain mainly in the west and north of the county, rainy weather until 22, then the weather improves and the temperature rises.
26-30: Sunny weather until 28 to 29 of the month, slightly above normal temperature, but at the end of the month expected deterioration with large temperature drop, many showers and perhaps a few snow on peaks of the mountains.

Winter 2014-2015

December 2014

1-5: Rainy with very low temperatures until the 5th.
6-15: From 5-6 fairly good weather with high enough temperatures for the season. From the 7th of the month, rapidly deteriorating of weather with lots of rain and big temperature drop. This wave of bad weather will last at least until the 9-10 month. After that, is expected a brief improvement in the weather until 13-15 but with sufficiently low temperatures.
16-25: Cold invasion expected from 16 with major temperature fall, rain and snow in the mountains and at lower altitudes mainly in the north of the county and perhaps lower. This cold wave will last at least until the 19th. No rain until Christmas, but the cold temperatures will persist.
26-31: Good weather in 26-27 but in the 28-31 expected rain and cold in the west and north of the county.

January 2015

1-5: Very good, clear weather with relative warmth for the season until the 3rd day of the month. From the 4th day will take place a significant drop in temperature and maybe rain and snow in the mountains.
6-15: Good weather on 7-9 month and from 10 to 12 expected rains and temperature drop. On 13-15, very cold but sunny without rain.
16-25: Good weather until 18, then drop in the temperature and rain with snow in the highlands. Improvement of the weather until 25 24. On 25 we will have rain and rapid temperature drop.
26-31: Rainy weather on 26. On 27 the weather will be good. On 28 expected worsening of the weather, maybe the first snow in Attica this season. The wave of cold is expected to be quite strong and last at least until the 30th of the month.

February 2015

1-5: Successive waves of bad weather until the 3-4, with snow up in areas with a very low altitude and is expected to affect the entire Attica. (Note that predictions quite difficult for this period).
6-15: Cold weather but no rain until the 10th of the month. On 10-12 are expected rains. Good weather until the 15th.
16-25: No significant change until 23, normal temperature for the season. Rains are expected on the 23-25 of the month.
26-28: Rain on 26-27 with snow in the mountains and low enough temperatures. Weather improvement on 28.

Spring 2015

March 2015
1-5: Rain on 1-2 of March 1-2 and sunny weather on 3 to 5.
6-15: Sunny weather with no rain until the 15th, normal temperatures for the season.
16-25: Numerous showers in the 16th of the month then the weather will improved until the 20th. New cold wave on the 21st with snows in the mountains and elsewhere. The cold wave will last at least until the 22-23. Good weather on 24 -25.
25-31: Good weather and good temperatures for the season, only on 31 there may be some rain.

April 2015

April will start generally with good weather. Sun and cloudy periods will be probably the main features of the weather up to the 13th. After the 15th expected worsening of weather with storms that will affect mainly the western and northern parts. The temperature will rise slightly these days while after the 20th is expected reduction of bad weather in the west and north. From the 24th until the end of the month, the weather will be sunny and hot.

May 2015

May will start with good sunny days until the 15th of the month. From the 16 to 17 some inconstancy will give brief showers mainly in the northern and western parts of the county. From the 25th until the end of the month the weather will be sunny.

Summer 2015

June 2015

June will have very hot days, especially during the period of 16-18 of the month. By the end of the month, it seems to have several warm days. In mid-month we will have winds and storms in the mountainous parts of Attica.

July 2015

July will be a very hot month, with heat waves around the 15th. Rains may occur in the mountains on 17-20. In the end, however, the temperature is expected to drop slightly.

How the "merominia" are interpreted.

There are three periods in the weather forecast, the long, medium and short term. For the long-term forecast, people used the merominia, for medium forecast they used the stars, (especially the moon), and for short-term forecast they used the behavior of animals, birds and insects.
For example, when a day is windy, the weather of the respective month will be fickle. When there are constant white clouds, the weather of the respective month will be rainy. When there are white clouds that are moving fast, the weather of the respective month will be snowy.
