5,6R earthquake hits Japan

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale shook Japan late Monday night.

According to the US Geological Survey, the quake struck two km west/northwest of Iwai in Japan's Ibaraki prefecture at about 11.28pm local time (3.28am GMT) and was felt in Tokyo.

Japan's Meteorological Agency said the depth of the earthquake was 50 km and there was no risk of a tsunami.
