Bandits spread terror in elderly

The victims were beaten, tied and gagged. Why they were attacking older people

For six months, the six-member gang of Albanians had spread terror in Evia. The unscrupulous thieves entered the homes of elderly people in deserted areas, where they were attacking the victims and in some cases, beat them, tied them and gagged them, in order to steal money, gold and mobile phones.

They robbed elderly people because they cannot react

The gang members after monitoring the houses of candidate targets were entering the homes when the victims were asleep, and by threatening the victims with knives, were stealing their valuables.

Specifically, on March 27, 2014, they entered the house of a 72-year-old woman in Mistros, Evia. Two members of the gang at knifepoint, overpowered the old woman and after she was tied up and gagged, removed 5,000 Euros, six gold coins, gold and jewelry, worth 2,000 Euros.

A month later they robbed a couple in the area of Psahna, Evia. Three of the attackers after they beat the 70 year-old owner of the house and the 63 year-old wife, took away two mobile phones, a watch and a gold cross on its chain.

Nightmarish moments lived a 89 year-old in Mitika of Evia. At dawn on May 13, 2014, three members of the gang, hit severely the elderly, tied him up and then stole 1,150 Euros and left undisturbed. Apart from robberies, the criminals had committed at least seven thefts from homes with total prey to exceed 17,000 euros.

Three Albanians were arrested

The police following an investigation carried out in the areas of Halkida, Evia New Artakis and in New Moudania, arrested three Albanians aged 30, 34 and 39 years, members of the gang of robbers and are searching for their three compatriots, which have been identified. The authorities, however, believe that they have committed other robberies and thefts in homes in Evia and Northern Greece
