Infrastructure Minister Chrysohoidis visits worksites in Epirus, northwest Greece

Infrastructure, Transport & Networks Minister Mihalis Chrysohoidis on Friday stated that 40 pct of the Ionian Motorway project, linking Antirrio in the southwest with the northwestern city of Ioannina, has been completed.

Chrysohoidis visited the worksite of Perdika, among the ten worksites currently in full operation in motorway sections under construction. The project employs roughly 2,000 workers and their number is expected to grow before the end of the year. The Ionian Motorway is designed to reduce the Antirrio-Ioannina travel time by an hour.

The minister attended a meeting at the Perdika worksite held with the participation of the regional governor of Epirus, MPs and representatives of local authorities. They examined the course of major projects underway in Epirus, among them, the upgrading of Ioannina Airport, the new Igoumenitsa port and the land improvement projects in Arta.

As regards Ioannina Airport, the works aimed at increasing its capacity have been completed and can now serve five Airbus A320 passenger planes. The airport building, covering a space of 3,500 sqm, will be ready in 2015.
