Meeting of Samaras - Merkel: the usual scolding from the Germans!

Berlin made sure to disillusion Samaras, prior to his meeting with Merkel. The message from the German side has already been sent to the Greek Prime Minister, both by the German press and by the German head of the European Support Mechanism: Debt haircut is out of the question!

According to Spiegel, a few days before the meeting in Berlin, Merkel will scold the Greek prime minister for tax evasion, while Klaus Reklingk already has made it clear that there is no possibility for debt haircut.

As noted by the German magazine, Angela Merkel is not at all happy with the performance of Greece in front of evasion and that will be one of the first issues that will bring in her meeting with the Prime Minister of Greece, on Tuesday.

Furthermore, the Spiegel correspondent in Greece, referring to the issue of tax evasion, argues that on his summer holiday in our country, did not receive receipt for in his dealings. He also stresses that the "huge" - as characterizes it - problem of tax evasion passes from those who do not give receipts to those citizens who pay.
Recall also that the previous days the German head of the European Support Mechanism (ESM), Klaus Regklingk, clarified that there is no intention in the EU or IMF for further "haircut" of Greek debt.

At the same time, Antonis Samaras is facing the Association of German Industrialists who complains about the heavy fines imposed on German companies from the Greek state. In fact, according to reliable information of Newsbomb, the German Industrialists have inform Merkel for their annoyance.

In short, the Chancellor will scold Samaras for non combat tax evasion and will express her annoyance for the hunt of the German companies. The absolute tragicomedy...

It is therefore clear that Angela Merkel, in this routine meeting,(as leaked by her press office, downplaying the journey of Mr. Samaras), will tell to the Prime Minister in the clearest way: «Forget it, Antonis!».
The bad news for Mr. Samaras is that Mrs. Merkel is fully prepared for the answers which will give to the prime minister, while she is expected to block a few of the main arguments of Mr. Samaras, about the "risk if Tsipras comes to power."
Besides, Mr. Samaras shows Tsipras as "bogey" in his meetings with foreign leaders and officials. However, lately, Alexis Tsipras in his contacts with European leaders have managed to reverse the detriment of the climate and is proving as reliable interlocutor. Tsipras is no longer 'bogey' for the German political world...
In the governmental circles of Germany and especially in the social democratic camp, are well aware that the possibility of forming a government by Tsipras, not in any way mean the end of the EU's relations with Greece. This was helped by the fact that in the meantime SYRIZA has clearly taken a position in favor of staying in the eurozone.

Therefore, the central argument of Antonis Samaras is expected to be forfeited.

The second argument is that the Prime Minister will not take the remaining money from the IMF, with a view Greece to be under the full control of the institutions of the EU, only.

Here of course there is a question about how to fill the financing gap of the IMF, which means that the country will need new bailout and new measures.
Samaras has the first assurances of Juncker for such a solution. But has no idea for the moods Merkel.

As political analysts believe, the best that Samaras can manage is to dislodge another oral assurance that Merkel, if necessary, will help in order IMF to leave.
Officially, Merkel is not going to get into such assurances. Besides, she could never officially challenge the role of the IMF, the involvement of which was imposed by her.

Off the record she might tell Samaras: "You go ahead and I will support you when you need it ...".

Even this, however - which is theoretically the best scenario for the Greek side - does not negate the bad climate in the country, after the ND has set the bar of expectations very high...
