Renowned Economist of the Peterson Institute, Jacob Funk Kirkegaard, talked exclusively to Newsbomb and predicted that SYRIZA will cover the area of the center-left.
Now eminent economists of the international stage have begun to admit that SYRIZA is a dominant political force in Greece. The noted Dane economist with statements to Newsbomb predicted that SYRIZA will cover the area of the center-left and went even further stating that SYRIZA will replace PASOK in political map of Greece. His words are of great interest as they broadly reflect the image that economic circles of Washington have on the political scene of the country by focusing on the role of SYRIZA. "As time passes, in my opinion, SYRIZA will try to replace PASOK as the dominant center-left party in Greece. This means that it will move gradually towards the center and will certainly continue, verbally, to oppose the measures and reforms as it is opposition. The combination of the economic crisis and the devaluation of entrenched party power bring new parties. No doubt about it" he emphasized.
Much more interesting was his view that Alexis Tsipras didn't really wanted to win the 2012 election: "If SYRIZA had won the elections of May 2012, the party wouldn't be unable to govern, because it wasn't even a party, but a compound of components. It was good in many ways. Quite frankly, if today you ask Tsipras, he will probably be happy he didn't win. And I think that we will see something that we have already started to see from the period before the runoff elections, that SYRIZA didn't want the country's exit from the euro. It had already begun to move toward the center". Kirkegaard considers that none of the political parties except SYRIZA want early elections because as he says: "they know they will be crushed. The ruling center-left political force in Greece, if we had elections today, would be SYRIZA".
