Through a letter to Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, the new mayor of Piraeus Yiannis Moralis declares that the port of Piraeus shouldn't be sold.
He even seeks the participation of the municipality in the administration of the Port of Piraeus. Specifically the letter states: "The port shouldn't be sold. Plans for privatization of 67% of the organization must be revised". He supports that growth prospects and the competitive position of the port will be enhanced if the majority of the shares remain under public control. His combination "Piraeus Winner" has argued from the outset in favor of preserving the public character of the harbor: "We believe that the modernization and upgrading of the port is associated with the development and progress of the city".
"As Municipality of Piraeus, we ask you to participate in the management of the Port of Piraeus. We claim that with enlarged participation of Piraeus in development planning in order not only to preserve existing, but to create new and sustainable jobs" the new mayor also mentioned. Concluding his letter, he urges the Prime Minister to intervene for an open dialogue with the local community "to revise and redesign the options". Below the entire letter.
