The ceremony for the change in the leadership in the Ministry of Development was held in good spirit and with smiles.
"This Ministry contains the great bet of the country, development" the new Minister of Development and Competitiveness, Nikos Dendias, said receiving the portfolio by Kostis Hatzidakis. "The great efforts made over the last two years should be continued and strengthened" he added and said "My only ambition is to serve this great effort". On his part, Hatzidakis talked about the project produced in the last two years: "We did what was imposed by our consciousness, our patriotic duty and what the balance of the Parliamentary forces allowed us".
Inter alia he mentioned that Greece now ranks third among the "28" on the absorption of EU funds (and the first in the European Regional Development Fund), and added that highways works restarted though they almost fainted away. He also referred to the establishment of the Greek sovereign fund despite objections expressed initially by troika, in the solution given for auctions and in structural changes and reforms that include new operating system for markets (double discount periods, Sundays), the new framework for occupational leases, simplifying procedures for business creation and export business as well as the changes contained in OECD's toolbox aimed at removing barriers for entry. "Some of these changes bother some professional groups. But they were done for the benefit of the country" he concluded.
