Cyprus: Ready to contribute to peace in Gaza Strip

Government spokesman Nikos Christodoulides confirmed on national television RIK that the government has been involved in the initiative of the European Union countries, informing that, if desired by the parties, Cyprus is willing to grant concessions at airports and ports.

It is also possible that the Larnaka port will be used as a control station, as part of the permanent ceasefire, end of blockades of Gaza and improving security of Israel. The recommendation for the use of the port was submitted by the Republic of Cyprus as part of the initiative of Britain, Germany and France for the Middle East.

The proposal involves the presence of European Union observers in parts of the Gaza Strip and the port of Larnaca, which will be used for the movement of goods and persons, in order to prevent misuse of facilities. The spokesman said that this proposal for involvement in the effort is subject to acceptance by all parties. But he added he doesn’t expect a reaction. as long as the plan is implemented. Christodoulides made it clear that, under the permanent solution on the lifting of the blockade of Gaza and the ceasefire, even if the proposal is applied, only the parties involved could decide.
