Student march in downtown Athens

University students, professors and administrative personnel held a protest march in downtown Athens on Friday against the rectors' councils decision to suspend the operation of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Athens University of Economics and Business and assign their guarding to police.

Protesters participating in the march, currently underway, gathered at the Propylea at noon, expressing opposition to the rectors' councils decision that was prompted by incidents recorded on Thursday outside the Athens Law School when a group of young individuals attempted to enter the school building to stage a sit-in demonstration and were stopped by police.

Traffic was interrupted in downtown Athens as a result of the protest march.
